Journal #13 (This journal response is due before Monday, Nov. 23rd)

This week think about your reasearch this semester for your lit review, presentation, and or research essay.

1) decide what you did well in your resarch PROCESS.

2) criticize things that you could have done better in this process.

3) decide what needs to be researched NEXT if you plan to continue learning / writing about this topic or issue (be sure to explain clearly why you think this is the next lofical step)

NOW paste your "reference" or "works cited" page from either your PRESENTATION, LIT REVIEW or RESEARCH PAPER.

Find 2 other student answers to this journal and reply to their post with the answers to these questions:

What is similar between your process and this student's process? What is similar between your "reference" or works "cited page"? Explain.

What is different between your process and this student's process? What is difference between your "reference" or "works cited" page? Explain.

Is your "next step" different or similar from this student's "next step?" (explain) What is your "next step" to finish your "reference" or "works cited" page? Explain

Journal #14 (This journal response is due before Monday, Nov. 30th)

This last journal assignment is really a kind of review, but instead of going over information that I have already provided, I want you to provide me with information about this wiki and the journal assignments.

1) decide which one of your journal answers is the best. Decide why it is "the best" of all journals that you posted on the wiki, and then explain why.

2) decide which journal is the WORST. The one you didn't work that hard on, or that you finished quickly to meet a deadline (after identifying that journal, cut ans paste the text from the journal as your answer to this question).

Now go back and correct (edit) that journal (improve it) but leave the ORIGINAL version of your answer in this journal.

3) decide what the best use of a "wiki" is, and then explain why you think so - if possible, provide examples from another wiki or BLOG to show your reader what you mean.

4) Lastly, (a reminder in the form of a question) > have you gone back and "improved" your journals that are in need of imrpovement? Have you finished AND correctly posted 12 journals?

(remember, I will not grade journal posts until AFTER the end of our semester; therefore, you have a couple of weeks to fill in the gaps / makeup your missing work for partial credit at least)

Find 2 other student answers to this journal and reply to their post with the answers to these questions:

What kind of "best" is this student's answer talking about? Do you and this student share a definition or understanding of "best" ? Explain why or why not.

DO NOT start discussions on this page - any posts that do not relate to the journal topics directly will be removed (there will be discussion specific pages and group pages available after midterm)

A)First of all, genre in the next song that I chose is a kind of wired because the song was created in the 60's. The song that I saying about is the song Strawberry Fields for Ever byThe Beatles._Everybody has heard that song at least one time. Has many people could assume with this song, refers to a special place that each person could be there to forget most of their problems. The inspiration that John Lennon had to write that song was that since his childhood, he went to an orphanage called Strawberry fields, to escape from his aunt's Mimi to avoid her annoying speeches about education and responsibilities. Maybe people do not know that fact, perhaps everybody might have an idea of how figure out that song. Furthermore, there are many covers of this particular song. For example, the band _Los Fabulosos Cadillcas (the wonderful cadillacs) made a cover song of the Beatles. it has the same meaning but they tried to show deeply what is the meaning of that song.

B)The text shows many facts that are related with the origins of that particular song of The Beatles. one curious detail of this song with its genre is difficult to classify. We can assume the song occurs between two and three times. However, most beatles song has an special characterizing related with its rhythm. A lot of their songs have an unusual method to change their melody, rhythm with respect their lyrics. In addition, in this text has a fact that John Lennon made many songs with names that he saw or went in his childhood. Furthermore, these places had an important meaning for this revolutionary singer.

C)The viewpoint is about that song has many curious aspects behind its music. These aspects have good reasons to believe in it meaning because it has external sources from musicians and philosophers

D)It is a good example but with some troubles to explain all it context. The genre of that song could be between pop music and rock music. However, in these years, music classification had as fewer categories. Moreover, fans came up with many strange genres for that song and for all Beatles songs. For example, teenagers, especially girls, classified as rock music with a strange romantic style to play these songs. In contrast, experts could believe that the Beatles was the band that creates most of the genre that already exist.

Journal #1 week 2

17 Again

1)The Genre of this movie is comedy, The one that makes up the discourse community that views and interacts whit this movie I think is the writer that decides what genre this movie is going to be and depending on the genre of the movie is the people that is going to be the movie for example a comedy genre movie is mostly watched by young adults and adults because they are the ones that are going to understand more the jokes that are usually the plot of the movie.

2) The purpose of this movie is mainly to entertain the people that goes to the theater and decides to see that movie, it is to make the people that are watching that movie have a good time and maybe forget about their personal problems and stress from work and school. For example this movie is about an adult that has a lot of problems in his work, he is going throw a divorce, and he does not Has a good relation with his daughter, also his son does not has a good self stem and does not like the sport he plays, while he has all this problems going on him magically turns 17 again so he has the possibility to interact more whit his daughter, he starts to remember what he used to felt for his wife and helps his don to have a higher self stem. I think this is a really good movie for adults because it tells the audience to not forget about their childhood, and about the real value of life.

3)I think that the perspective of this movie 17 again is to send like an alert to all the audience of this movie that are usually adults, to do not leave to a side the people that is important for them like their family and friends, and do not give more important to the money or their jobs, to take the life more easy, because all the stress and pressure can make you lose what is really important and then when you realize this you will not have a second chance to be 17 again and remember what it was like, so we always have to keep or child side alive. For all these reasons I think this is a really good movie for these times because now people lives under a lot of stress and don't realize the important things on life.

4) I think this is a good example about the genre comedy because during the movie the main character pass throw a lot of difficulties, and have a lot of experiences that make you laugh about what you think is important, and you see life throw the eyes of a man in a body of a teenager, so it is really funny, and I think this is a really successful movie.

The Hangover

1. The gender of this movie is comedy. The writer is who makes up the discourse community those views. The writer is who find good ideas to attract people to view the movie. I think is the writer because the writer look the society and find the things to attract people if the writers don't have good ideas ever can write a good picture.
2. The purpose of this picture is to make people smile. Always comedy movies want entertain people with laugh. All this movie show the interesting history makes laugh people is the most important in this kind of movies. This history is one of the most fun movies this year the writer find a good topic and show it for the viewers.
3. The perspective here I think is the comedy because this writer knew how to do a good movie the topic is important, but for me is more important how the writer make this topic interesting. The topic in this movie is when four friends travel to Las Vegas for two days and these two days they live many adventures.
4. I think this is the best genre because all people can see these types of movies. These type of movies are my favorites because are good pictures to relax people.

Godzilla, King of the Monsters (1954)

Godzilla is a science fiction film released in 1954 in Japan, nine years after the atomic bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in World War II. Godzilla is a four hundred feet tall monster born from nuclear radiation and breaths fire and not mentioning, he is indestructible. The movie Godzilla has amazing destructive scenes, after all this movie was made by people who experience the horror of the nuclear bombs; therefore there a few scenes where Tokyo is completely destroyed, looking just like Hiroshima and Nagasaki after the atomic bomb explode, and also there are scenes were people died at the hospital or during the attack; unfortunately, some people thought the movie was cruel, for example Roger Elbert from the Chicago Sun Times. So Wiki Project films decided to write an article about this movie in order to inform everyone about the plot and the cast of the movie, for example: the article mentions characters like Takashi Shimura as Dr. Yamane, the guy who wants to study Godzilla and Akihiko Hirata as the scientist Dr. Serizawa, the true hero of the movie that invented the weapon that destroyed Godzilla, the Oxygen destroyer. About Godzilla, is a four hundred feet tall monster born from nuclear radiation and breaths fire and not mentioning, he is indestructible.

The perspective of the writers of this text was based upon the ones who saw the movie or read about behind the scenes of the movie in newspapers or magazines, such as the Chicago Sun Times and Entertainment weekly. To sum things up, Godzilla is a movie that combines the horror of 1945 and made an entertaining science fiction movie; and actually the article I read informed well about the 1954 Godzilla movie.

a) The film I choose is "meet the fockers" and it genre its comedy. In my opinion the writer of the movie is the one that makes up the discourse to attract people to see the movie. The writer focus in a part of life were a person needs to spent time with all his family at the same time so it is going to be difficult for him to make feel comfortable to all of them.
b) The purpose of the comedy films is to exaggerated things of real life in a funny way, so you can entertain and laugh about those things. In the film "meet the fockers", the writer focuses on the drama of meet the parents of a woman's husband. And a lot of funny things happen there while the husband is trying to make all his family comfortable.
c) The perspective of the writer is to give a general idea of some of the problems people can have with the parents of your significant other when you try to spent time with them and make a good impression but because this is a comedy movie they do it in way that you can enjoy it and have fun.
d) In my opinion, this is a good comedy movie because it shows some popular problems of real life that can stress a lot of people, but if you see the perspective of this movie you can have good time seeing it.

a) The song "Quien te cantara" (Who will sing to you) is a spanish song interpreted by many singers, but "Mocedades" is the group that made it a hit in the 70's. "Mocedades" were known because of their musical genere which was "Balada", defined as a poetic composition divided in equal verses in which one makes melancholic reference to past events. People usually listens to them because they feel a connection of some sort with the meaning of the song, for example, as the definition of "balada" says, they make remembrances to something that happened to them. Also, "Mocedades" is a good selection for people who enjoys slow and romantic music. I know this because i am the kind of person who likes to listen to "Mocedades" and find this genere a relaxing and enjoyable one.

b) The purpose of the song is to valorate the other person in a relationship, the things that the two of you can do when you are together, and the moments that you would loose when you two set apart, after all, as the old proverb may say, "no one knows what he/she has, until he/she looses it." It is hard to be far away from your beloved, for example, i am sure because my husband is at Mexico City, and i am living here at El Paso with my sons, and it is really difficult to be living two thousand kilometers away from him.

c) Juan Carlos Calderon was the author of this song, and the purpose of him writting such a beautiful melody could be that he was about to suffer an estrangement with his beloved, or in many cases, singer go up to the authors and ask them to write a song for them with some characteristics given by the singers. I think this is possible because of what the song says, for example, "Quien te cantara con esa guitarra, quien la hara sonar cuando no este yo, quien dara a tu casa color y a tu lecho calor quien te hara el amor." (Who will sing to you with that guitar, who will make it sound when in gone, who will give color to your house, and heat to your bed, who will make love to you.)

d) This song is a good example of the genere "balada" because it has been sung by many others in the same genere, and it describes melancholic events. This genere is based in place, time, outstanding characteristics such as "for dancing", "for accordions", etc..., extra-musical function and context, such as "political music", "wedding music", etc..., and for membership of a larger genere, for example, "be-bop" is a member of "Jazz." Many music like this could be heard at 93.9 and 99.1 fm at the local radio.

I chose topic #2 of the rubric which consists on getting two examples of a genre of music.

A) The song titled "enjoy the silence" is a popular song originally created by Dépêche Mode and that many groups have been making the cover of that song. The song is an electronic rock style because you can listen to some sounds only computers are able to make and you are also able to listen to some guitar, bass, and drum. The lyrics ,as many people explained, are about how words can be very harmful; "Words are very unnecessary they can only do harm" this is part of the song lyrics that compose this popular song. If you analyze the lyrics and the title you can probable guess the meaning of the song which is to enjoy the silence and not to hurt using words to some other people. There are also many covers for this particular song; Oasis, lacuna coil, tori amos, keane and many others.B) The song purpose is to use words without making someone feels bad or to express yourself in the correct way; analyzing the lyrics you can guess what is the meaning and the purpose of it.
C) I agree with the song viewpoint because I always make the mistake of communicating how do I feel about something in the incorrect way and I make people around me feel bad about my way to communicate and it would be better to remain quite. Most of the people have said something that they did not meant to say.

D) The song it's a perfect example about the electronic rock genre because it completes all the requirements to be in this genre starting for the sounds you can listen to when the original song, which is interpreted by Depeche Mode, begins. The instruments used are also belonging to the electronic rock genre.

Locate a "text" and answer the following questions. I suggest you wait to start this journal until after you have read the scoring rubric for our first (genre analysis) essay - that way you can use what you write in your journals to help you plan your essay.
a) What is this text's genre?
Definition essay.
b) What or Who makes up the discourse community that views, or interacts with this text?
People who are learning formal writing.
c) Explain why you think so and give specific examples. How do you know?
I think that because in this type of essay shows you specific characteristics to follow and for this reason I suppose is directed to people or students who needs to know how perform this essay style . An example of that is because the text is too easy to understand and also the text start with the definition of the topic and it gives to the audience a big vision about how to create this kind of essay.
b) What is the purpose of the text?
The purpose of the text is to define a healthy life and also it gives steps how to get it.
How do you know?
I know that because in the beginning of the text start to explain the definition of healthy life and also it provides some steps to improve your life to healthy way.
Explain why you are sure. Provide examples and support to show that you have good reasons to believe your opinion.
The genres have some characteristics to define if it belongs or not at its genre. I know my reasons are fine because this particular essay has a fantastic structure that is easy to recognize what kind of essay is and also what is talking about.
d) What is the agenda (or perspective / viewpoint) of the writer of this text?
The author chose an easy topic to teach who to do a definition essay besides showing how to perform a better way to get a healthy life.
e) Again, what details or features of the text make you think so? Provide specific examples. Provide examples and support to show that you have good reasons to believe your opinions.
I believe that the author wanted to teach how to do this specific kind of essay because the contest provides a good and easy format to follow. The first example is about the introduction where the author posted the main idea of the essay and also the audience can identify what kind of essay is. Second example is the thesis statement there it is clearly and the community that views will get the important points and they will see the distribution or the ideas and how the author explains them. In this particular part of the text the author gives some strategy to consider if the audience needs to do and essay like that and besides suggest the audience a good way to change their bad habits by good ones.
d) Briefly describe whether the text you chose is a "good" or a "bad" example of the genre it belongs to. Again, provide specific examples as well as a justification of how you can tell the difference between a succesful text and an unsucessful text. Who decides what this genre is and is not? Again, explain.
I think the text is good essay because it has a good organization and scientific facts that proves the viewer of the author and it is a good example of the genre because it describes its category successfully with a lot characteristics like to define the topic in the first paragraph. The essay is clear and easy to read, this permit that the audience get interest in it and also they can take the essay like reference if they need to learn how to do one of this genre.

-->This text that I choose is about rock; it falls in the genre of music. The Community that could view this article are mainly rockers and anyone interested to know a little bit more about rock and also if they like music. I believe in this because if you are not interested in music or more specific in rock, you never will take a look on it because it talks only and specifically about genre of rock and music. The purpose of this text is to show what characterizes genre of rock. Furthermore, I know that because the text talks about beginnings of rock, what instruments they usually use, what compound a rock band, etc. however, I am sure about that because I consider myself as a rocker and also I have friends that have rock bands and they do pretty much the same like a really famous bands for example: Black Sabbath, Dio, Deep Purple and many others. I think the writer is pretty sure that rock is a genre of music. He also knows exactly what kind of songs they play and which ones they never going to play as a rock band, and also he knows that a rock band almost every time play a guitar solo to accompanying the song. In addition, he is familiarized with the instruments that a rock band usually used to play songs; he also explains how the rock grows though the time until today. This text is not the best one in my opinion, but I choose it because it is short and explains in a few specific words what rock is. Nevertheless, this is a successful text because it only focused in explain what is rock and that's it. On the other hand, an unsuccessful text loses the main concept in a certain point of the text and the reader get confused. I think the people who decides which is and which not a genre of something is because they have a plenty knowledge about the meaning of genre.

How to build a sandwich

This text is a set of steps that lead to lighting a fire in a fireplace. The genre is instructional or educational.
a) 1. In contrast to the journal 1 this text is an instructional text.
2. It is not meant to entertain but to teach how to light a fire.
3. It has nothing to do with music.
b) 1. The text is written in steps instead of having an essay structure.
2. There is a chronological order in the text that has a goal to succed on the process of lighting the fire
3. This text in contrast to the journal 1 doesn't rhyme and is not divided in verses and chorus.
c) In my opinion text 2 is better to explain the genre of a text. Although text 1 fall directly into a genre because of the band that performs it, if you read with knowing about the music it is pretty hard to decipher the genre of it. Unlike text 2 that has a natural genre that when you read you know what is about, and what is meant to do.

a) Notebook is a romantic novel; the genre of this story is romantic. This story also has a movie that is about a man and a woman that are in love. It starts when a young men is read every day to her wife (who has Alzheimer) his own love story, when they met, all things they need to pass for being finally together.
b) I think that the purpose of the text is to show a romantic story in which an older couple has flashbacks of when they fall in love many years ago and how they could overcome all her problems in the end be together after many years
c) This story was created by American novelist Nicholas Sparks. And I think that with this novel he wants to demonstrate what love means, and how people make anything for love.
d) I totally agree that this is a romantic genre because it involves real love, and I think this is a very good example of a romantic genre. Experts decide the genre of this text but I think all people who read the text or saw the move will agree with the genre.

Harry Potter

This text genre is fiction because the book talks about a boy who has magic powers and he show them during the history while he tries to solve the doubts in the history. The discourse community is composed by a lot of people. The most important are his classmates Hermoine Granger and Ron Weasley and the stuff of the school as Professor McGonall, Mrs. Weasley, Professor Snape, and Professor Dumbledor. I think that because in the tram of the history there are the people most evolved in trying to help Harry Potter and others trying to damage him. For example, when he has all the school eyes putting on him and making some bad commentaries his friends Hermoine and Ron help him. Also at the moment of the fight Harry Potter is against the Professor. This book has not a specific purpose. But one could be just let your imagination navigate because as this book is fiction a lot of things are unreal and we can just imaginate. The perspective of is see our world as the fantasy world like if we could use our powers to solve our problems as when harry confront the doubt in his first day of school everyone at one moment of our lives we passed by something like that. This is a god book in the fiction genre because fiction is something that is not real and although some moments of the movie we know that are unreal we continue connecting to the movie like if this will be real. Also is a god book because in my personal opinion a successful book or movie is that which have the reader or viewer interest since the beginning until the end and this book so that. I think that who decides what the genre is, is the editorial where the book is approved and revised to be show at the public.

Journal #2
Yuria Perez
The Pianist
One of the comparisons that those books have is that both have introduction, climax and the end. The second one is that both of them let a message to the readers in the first one was that every people have the same problems and they continue living their lives and confronting the obstacles; in the second the message is that no matter if you do not have nothing in the life or if you lose everything the life continue and always have something new for you. The genre of this book is drama/action because it starts with the history of a man who plays the piano and is really good on it. Then follow in the war between Judies and Germans relating the life of this pianist with his passion to play piano and the limits that he has to be Jude. Finally he looses everything and all people around him are already died but he survives and has a hope to start a new life. The other example is that as this genre is most drama you do not need to use very much your imagination to be connected with the author's purpose as we do in the Harry Potter. The third example is that in this genre there is not unreal stuff everything is real because this was a problem in the world which was happening in the past. The second book is the better one because is more informative that imaginative and that is good for all young people who do not know nothing that was happening in the past to have a piece of knowledge about the history of other places. I am a membership of those kind of genres because I like the past countries histories to know the reason why there are like they appear today. Also I like the fiction genre because make us disconnect for a while of the real life and let us travel with our imaginations.

The pursuit of happiness
The genre of the movie is drama, because of the genre most of the people that will be seeing and enjoying this movie will be adults, because maybe teenagers will like it and think that is a very nice movie but they certainly haven't been put in the situation, or just very few teenagers. What this movie is trying to say is that no matter how bad your situation is, and you feel like you have nothing else to lose there is always going to be a second chance for everybody especially for good people and that if you risk you win. Also a nice message is that he was very dedicated and that way he got what he wanted, from hundreds of applicants he got an internship because they saw he was passionate and confident and good worker. This is what the director is trying to tell us, look at him who got nothing, had only one suit and even so he managed to look sharp for interviews, and worked on something so hard and he wasn't even going to get paid for it, and what do we do? Compared to that mediocrity.

1. The gender of this movie is romance/ drama. This movie makes us think of what could have been and gives us a fresh look at the meaning of true love. It talks about something that a lot of people live from the problems they can have in their families because they fall in love with someone who has different economic status. 2. The purpose of this movie is to view what is a true love. Also, to see how a poor and passionate young man falls in love with a rich young woman and gives her a sense of freedom. They soon are separated by their social differences. See how they fight for their love and demonstrating to everybody how they live in deeply love on till they die. 3. The perspective here is that no matter what the two spirited characters will forever be together, even if it means defying reality, science, death and disease. If you're one to get completely absorbed in fantastical love stories that are mere semblances of reality. And that true love always wins.4. I think this is the best genre because it is something that everybody feel and like because everybody dream with that someone we will past the rest of our life. Becoming one and the person how is going to give us the power to continue with life. the nothebook movie

Slasher genre

In contrast to the last journal, the slasher films fall into the horror genre instead of the science fiction genre, and the antagonist are psychopaths, which approaches more to the real life. For example: Science fiction movies are about giant monsters like giant spiders, giant ants and Godzilla, alien invaders or trips to distant galaxies, while the horror movies are about monsters like Dracula, the Wolf man and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide and of course, serial killers like Leatherface, Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees.

Slasher movies have something in common: A serial killer hiding in the shadows killing all the main characters one by one. The first movie considered a slasher movie was psycho in 1960, because of the shower scene, where the killer slowly approaches to the shower in the background and suddenly, along with a creepy music, he murderers Janet Leigh; but it was just a few deaths. The movies that really were considerer slasher movies were Halloween, where Michael Myers is stalking Laurie Strode and her friends and finally killing them, except Laurie; and Friday the 13th, where Jason Voorhees hides in the woods, stalking the campers in Crystal Lake, then killing them.

In conclusion, both texts were good in measuring their own genre, it depends what the audience want; if they want to see something unrealistic and entertaining, then a science fiction movie is what they need, but if they want to scream and get scared a little bit, then a slasher movie is what they need.

Comedy Vs Acion

Action movie like James Bond Quantum instead of making a laugh people they tried to emphasize on a hero that save something very important and fight for it. Both probably talk about problems of real life but the writers most of the time exaggerated the problems because in comedy movies the problems are with the family where you see a lot of jokes and in action movies focus on political problems or government problems where you see a lot of explosions and fights.

In this movie James Bond Quantum of Solace there is involved a lot of military technology and beautiful cars that some people like to see a lot. In the movie James Bond try to find the killer of his love, while doing that he discovers an organization called quantum is involved with the murder. Some of the characteristics of action movies are the explosions, guns, fights and deaths all over the movie.

Both movies are good in their genre because they show examples of the characteristics of each one. Genre specified the category of the movies so if you want to laugh you are not going to see an action movie instead a comedy movie, but if you want a see fights and a person risking his life for a purpose an action movie is the best choice.

A)To compare the previous song that I mentioned I will use exactly the same song but reproduced on 2 different genres "Enjoy the silence" originally produced on a electronic rock genre is also played in rock genre by itself and electronic genre also by itself instead of recombining both genres. This song is really flexible since it was made originally with a combination of 2 genres so we can play it either one or another.

B)The electronic version of "Enjoy the silence" modified by two famous DJs, Sasha and John Digweed, is played in techno, a subgenre of electronic music; Instead of using rock instruments they used computers and with some help of some producing software they were able to transform it directly into a genre. On the other side we have the same song played in piano rock by Keane using some piano instead of a synth and some other instruments to adapt the song into the genre. We also have HIM playing the same song on a hard rock style using guitar instead of a piano and using strong and heavy notes.

C) Since society classify every genre in subgenres it is easier to identify a specific genre so there is not a better example of a genre because they all fall into their respective genre. The song was created in an electronic rock and we are going to be able to find hundredths of genres and every genre will be original and unique.

Julio Corral

A)At difference with the another text that is related with a song written bye The Beatles, Muse band is an example of another kind of genre. First, this band is very young than the Beatles. Their have approximately eighteen years playing alternative songs, rock music and experimental sounds. The little similarities with these two bands are that they used to try another kind of sound to make their songs more originals than another bands. Maybe the band Muse do not has the same popularity that the Beatles got but in this aspect, has a similarity than a difference. Second, the big difference is their music style. The Beatles did not use electronic effects powered by sophisticated music software. In contrast, Muse has an advantage creating new music styles improving their song with electronic effects and the special detail using vibratos in their sounds. Finally, a similarity is their influences. In the last album that Muse recorded, European and Asian customs inspired most of their songs that fascinated all their fans and convinced many music critics. This append in the same way with the Beatles. They also had many influences around the world from many countries of the old world.

B)A possible definition about Muse's songs is their music style. Their songs are almost showing us about a new music generation where people are able to hear innovative experimental sounds to break the constant music routine. The reason is that many group band do not proved something new and they prefer write new songs but with the same music rhythm. Therefore, Muse band had changed their style. They began with hard rock music with some songs like One. However, nowadays you can hear SunBurn and hear the important change that they had. This is improvement

C)In my opinion, I like both but I prefer the second one because their songs catch my attention since I hared the first time with it song Knight of Cydonia. After that, I started to seek more about this curious band, which songs have, and special feature that The Beatles does not have at all. For example, their performance mixes their sounds and their creativeness adding guitar and pianos styles.

-->This text is about rancheras; it falls also in the genre of music like the other text. I am going to contrast this text about rancheras with the other about rock. First of all, genre of rancheras is created mainly in one country Mexico and because of that the songs are in Spanish. The genre of rock is wide open to everyone who wants to play this king of genre, the language in this genre does not care because you can found rock bands that play songs in other languages like Rammstein which is a famous rock band from Germany and also sings in German. On the other hand, you cannot play rancheras in other language because they won't be more a ranchera song. Secondly, who play rancheras is compounded by many integrants, more precisely one singer and the band which is called mariachi. In rock we can appreciate that a rock band is compounded most of the time by a quartet, and also they have the singer and the second voice which usually is the guitarist. Finally, the genre of rancheras use many instruments and all of it are acoustic instruments like guitars, accordion, trumpets, bass bow, cello bow and many others. By the side of rock, the mainly instruments that they use are basically: electrical guitar, electrical bass, drums, and sometime a console to create electronically sounds. In addition, the instruments are not too many. This contrast is good for analysis because I select the main characteristic of each one that defines which is a genre of rock and rancheras. Other three examples that limits rancheras genre are. First, the singer and the mariachi wear a traditional cloth called charro clothing. Second, in rancheras the guitarist does not play guitar solos like in a rock band. Last one, rancheras songs always talks about love, patriotism, heart brakes, nature, etc. In my opinion, I can say which the best one is because both are pretty closed to the definition of its genres. The requirements to be part of one of these genres are easy because they fallow specific criteria which avoid confusions. To have a membership in one of these genres is simple just following the points explained and read carefully my contrast.

The reason this movie is so funny is because this is an issue than can happen to anyone at any time and actually what they do in this film is something that may have crossed everyone's head but too crazy or illegal to do. Unlike films like the Pursuit of Happiness which shows a similar situation a father who has lost everything including the mother has to do everything to support his kid and himself and move on but does more realistic things. Both are excellent movies and show very similar situations but of course they are represented in different genres.

Friendly Fires- Paris

a) Well I'm pretty sure the genre of the text is supposed to be poetic, since it is a song that is meant to be written to a women, but if we consider that is music well it would fall into a Pop/Disco House/Tropical because that is the genre of the band. The artists are the ones that discourse the "text" and decides how to compose music to it in order to give sense to the song, in order to give good material for their fans.

b) The purpose of this poem or song is to entertain and to enchant with a very lovely poem. It is to entertain because is music and the main purpose of music business is to entertain.

c) The perspective of the writer when writing the poem or song is mainly dedicated to a girl. It's saying how the artist is preparing to take that girl to Paris; and about how great will that adventure be. I can assure that because on the first verse says:
One day we're gonna live in Paris
I promise
I'm on it
When I'm bringing in the money
I promise
I'm on it
And on the chorus tells how great is going to be for them living in paris:
And every night we'll watch the stars
They'll be out for us
They'll be out for us
And every night, the city lights
They'll be out for us
They'll be out for us

d) This is a good example of genre analysis because the band by itself falls into a genre. Although it might be difficult to categorize the poem because it talks about love or relationships so the poem itself might be consider in a romantic genre.

Lit Review: Psychology Literature Review
In this literature review there are two ways to write this type of review. The first one is when the writer chooses an area where he or she will be the study. The second one is when the writer chooses the theme to study. I think the author organize the literature review in this way because is the most easy way to write this. The writer uses tree sources (journal article, chapter book and a book). I think the writer chose these tree because in these found more information. http://depts.washington.edu/psywc/handouts/pdf/litrev.pdf. The writer uses the APA style. APA style is easy to write the sources where you find the information.
For me the most difficult section is The Common Theme of the Critical Thinking Movement and is also the section with most material. The section of Evaluation of Critical Thinking is the easier to understand and is the section in which the author uses a little material.

The lit. Review that I pick is "Can Small-City Downtowns Remain Viable? A National Study of Development Issues and Strategies," Journal of the American Planning Association 65 (1999).

a) The major section of this example I think is the introduction, and I think the author organized it in this way because the introduction is the most important part of this review because is the one in charge of getting the attention of the reader.

b) The example include 45 sources, I think they chose this number of sources because the lit review is from a big document, this makes like a resume of a bigger piece of writing like a big essay, and article or a book, so it has to give the sources from the book or the essay to give more credibility.

c) Two resources from the lit. Review I chose are The Downtown Development Handbook (McBee, 1992), and Frieden and Sagalyn's (1999) widely cited book Downtown, Inc.

d) They used in text citation, I think they used this style to cite the research they did to give credibility.

e)The sections that have more material are the one that talks about what is critical thinking, it gives a good explanation, that contains a lot of good material, and also the one that talks about the research that they did on Venezuela about critical thinking. The one with the least amount of material is the section where she describes the common theme of the Critical thinking Movement. The easier parts to me to understand are "what is Critical Thinking" and Critical vs. Creative thinking, because they are really good explained with easy vocabulary for everyone to understand. The harder sections to understand for me were Is Critical thinking Subject- Dependent? And Some Studies of Critical Thinking Program Effectiveness and Transfer.

A) It is divided into 5 sections, an executive summary, an introduction, a bibliography, and the end notes.

D) MLA they used this types of citation because it is smaller and it do not confuse he reader.
E) Transferability of Critical Thinking is the shortest paragrapgh, and she uses a resource to complete this paragraph, the largest paraghraph is Some Studies of Critical Thinking Program Effectiveness and Transfer and she uses many resources examples to complete the paragraph. She uses many resources to make her review precise and more reliable.

I found an example of literature review called "Pathological Video-game Use Among Youth Ages 8 to 18."

a) The major sections in this example are four it starts with the abstract, methods, results and discussions.

b) In this example there are 27 sources, I think he did not choose how many resources he want but, he put the ones he get information from.

c) Two sources from the list:
*Griffiths, M.D., & Dancaster, I. (1995). The effect of Type A personality
on physiological arousal while playing computer games.
Addictive Behaviors, 20, 543-548.

Retrieved June 13, 2007, from http://www.pewtrusts.com/pdf/
PIP_Internet_and_schools_05.pdf

d) The example used APA citation, because I think APA style is easier to put your references and it is more used in investigations.

e) The section that has less material is where he explains transferability of critical thinking and critical thinking vs. creative thinking, and the sections that have the most material are where he explains what is critical thinking and some studies of critical thinking program effectiveness and transfer. The first sections are easy to understand than the last sections because it defined terminology in the first ones that he uses in the last ones.

Lit review : Rhetoric 2 : Sample Literature Review

As I can see and I could read , the three major or sections of the example I read are 3 . I think the
Writer did this way because he is comparing 2 different points , starting with the first one which

Is interested and the other which is kind of contrast . The example I read has 13 sources but I will

mention only 3 of them which are (Abizadeh, Sohrab and John A. Gray. "Politics and Provincial

Government Spending in Canada." Canadian Public Administration 35 (Winter 1992): 519-33.

Akyeampong, Earnest B. "Working for Minimum Wage." Perspectives on Labour Income.

statistics Canada Catalogue 75-001E (Winter 1989): 8-20. Baker, Michael, Dwayne Benjamin,

and Schuchita Stanger. "The Highs and Lows of the Wage Effect: A Time-Series Cross-Section

study of the Canadian Law." Journal of Labor Economics 17 (April 1999): 318-50. This

example has de APA style which it is the most common at literal reviews . I think that the

sections that refers most to the information are : The common theme of the critical thinking

movement , Evaluation of critical thinking and Transferability of critical thinking . In the other

hand the sections that referst the least of information are : Is critical thinking subject-dependent?

, some studies of critical thinking and critical vs creative thinking . Also , another viewpoint is

That there are some sections more difficult than others for example I saw that the section of

evaluation of critical thinking and transferability of critical thinking are hard to understand .

The rest of the others sections are kind of easy to process and understand .

a) What are the major sections or divisions of this example? Why do you think the author organized it in this way?

The background, statistics, and the moratorium

The writer wrote these classifications to show since the first to the end
b) How many sources did the example include? Why do you think they chose this number? Explain.

Only one

It think that he choose only one because there is only one reliable source that is the " Death Penalty Information Center"

c) Find two resources from this lit review. You do not have to "check them out." but find them and record where they are located (you should experience the time required to find something that you know exists and are looking for before you start looking for something that may not exist when you start your own research.)

the first one is in a graph and the other in the bottom

d) What citation style did your example lit review use? Why do you think they chose that style to cite the research that they used?

They just post the name of the company and that was it.

e) Now, look over the "example" lit review that I posted on Coursemine. Consider that this example is long due to the lengthy nature of the project (a thesis or dissertation perhaps). Now consider that this example could have also been written by a GROUP of authors (even though it was not in fact). Which sections refer to the most material? Which sections refer to the LEAST amount of material? Which sections are hard to understand? Which sections are easier to understand??

I guess that the history section is one of the sections that more information and the section of data.

a)The author of this lit review explain more about education technology and quantitative research which decided to create many sub-titles and sub-categorize to organize this long topic. Most of those sub-categories refer to use computers and advantage technology to teach student better than before.

b)The author used 30 sources in his completely lit review and he used each one to explain his many points of view. Probably, the reason is that he uses many sources because most of his essay involves many facts to prove for the reader.

c)Alavi, M. (1994). Computer-Mediated Collaborative Learning: An Empirical Evaluation, MIS Quarterly, (18:02), June, pp. 159-174.

All his sources are from external books and magazines and only one is from a webpage. He did not include many webpage in his bibliography

d)He used MLA format in his bibliography

e)Comparing both lit reviews, I am able to assume that each one was created to develop critical answers about its topics. The lit review from the webpage talks about how technologies will more advantages in schools, which involves thinking about how that could be true. At the same time, the lit review from coursemine has a particular focus about how a critical thinker is able to come up with his own original question about the topic.

Assisted Suicide
According to the text I located, the author separated the topic into 6 major sections: Legality, History, Legality by country, Organizations in support of assisted suicide, Published research and Attitude of health care professionals. The reason I think why the author organized the text in this order is because he first described the general meaning of assisted suicide and then going from the beginning to the present time. The text has seventy eight sources, the author chose this quantity of sources because assisted suicide is a very interesting but complicated topic and it needs a lot of points of view in order to put it together. Two of those resources are: History of Euthanasia located at www.euthanasia.com and retrieved at February 9th 2009; the other resource is "Physician-Assisted Suicide and the German Criminal Law." By Gabriele Wolfslast in the year of 2008.
Most of the resources of this text uses MLA format, but others just mentions the webpage and the date they were last modified. The section that has more information is the Legality by country, because it mentions what countries of the world is legalized the assisted suicide and under what regulations.

I think critical thinking movement is a bit hard to understand because there is a lot of material and you might have to read it more than once to get the main objective of the reading, also history has a lot of material.

Since my essay is going to be about how the drug war in mexico is affecting Juarez the source that I am going to use is going to be in Spanish but I will translate it when quoting. This article talks about the redemption of a person that worked for the Mexican Mafia also called a "sicario" that is hiding from the mafia because of treason. The article does not say who he worked for due to security issues of the "sicario", but it is still an interesting story of his life and all the things he did while working in the mafia.

Violent video game research has yielded very mixed results. Facts: Some studies have yielded nonsignificant video game effects, just as some smoking studies failed to find a significant link to lung cancer. But when one combines all relevant empirical studies using meta-analytic techniques, five separate effects emerge with considerable consistency. Violent video games are significantly associated with: increased aggressive behavior, thoughts, and affect; increased physiological arousal; and decreased prosocial (helping) behavior. Average effect sizes for experimental studies (which help establish causality) and correlational studies (which allow examination of serious violent behavior) appear comparable (Anderson & Bushman, 2001).Scientists are learning about the possible causes of bipolar disorder. Most scientists agree that there is no single cause. Rather, many factors likely act together to produce the illness or increase risk.

The web page I found has a lot of information about vegetarianism, probably I am going to summarize the information below because it has a good points of what the benefits vegetarianism are. "Research has shown a number of health benefits related to vegetarian eating. Heart disease , high blood pressure , adult-onset diabetes , obesity , osteoporosis , and certain cancers occur less often in people who are vegetarian. Science has demonstrated that these health benefits are related to healthful food choices. Eating whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds provides the body with the ammunition needed to fight disease and illness. A diet high in meat, saturated fat , milk, cheese, and butter does not provide the same health benefits."

What information can you use from this resource? Will that information be quoted, summarized, or paraphrased?

There is a lot to use form this resource and this is an example of something that can be quoted ''In 1991 Amato and Keith examined the results of 92 studies involving 13,000 children ranging from preschool to young adulthood to determine what the overall results indicated. The overall result of this analysis was that children from divorced families are on "average" somewhat worse off than children who have lived in intact families. These children have more difficulty in school, more behavior problems, more negative self-concepts, more problems with peers, and more trouble getting along with their parents.''

-What part of Toulmin's argument analysis (paper handout soon to be scanned and posted on coursemine) How does this information fit into a category from Toulmins model?

It does because its a support for my thesis statement and helps me to reinforce my counterarguments and backup.

-How important is this information? Does your thesis DEPEND on it? Does your READER need to know it?

It is important because it shows that studies have been done by Psychologists and sociologists in Universities and shows the results which gives credibility to my paper.

The information in this source is reliable since it has been developed by professionals at Universities through years of studies and the information that I have found in different resouces matches.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-198602/Calls-warn-TV-violence.html

1)this source is a good example of backing that releats with my current topic about violence in media (TV, internet, videogames)
it has some facts that are supporting the idea of sugestive messages that teenagers and child could see
in other word, it is ture that many programs and commersials have sexual messages that will deteriorate teenagers behaivor
to a non-ethical actitudo with their parents and friends.

2)the reason that the author wrote this article is to let people to know that not all programs has a positive message
for children. this mean that the author wants to show parents and children that some of their favorite programs contains
a sugestive message which promote sexual thinking.

3)it represent the mayority. however, nowadays people do not take care about it because most teenagers and parents are
already accustom to this sugestive messages. in other word, seeing this programs con negative messages is very common
in modern ages which family members adopt has a custom from modern society

4) the common connection that has this sourcers and the last source that i used is its content about media violence issue
however, the little diference is that this new source focus about an specific kind of television messages. it shows how
some common programs like reality shows and music videos suggest to teenagers sexual content. in the other hand, the
another source that i used had more fact and general stadistics about media violence in TV.

5)author's opinion in this source goes for those who avoid the dilemma that television messages are bombarding
to childrens with negative and/or suggestive messages that could change their behaivor. moreover, the author seems to provide
true information with facts about media (television, internet, videogames).

6)it is about something that it happens right now. in addition, the information that the authors provide introducese
another page to the long issue that involves violence in media of communication. of cource, nowadays, everybody is able
to see sugesstive TV programs as normal as we read news. however, this author wants to enfaciy that parents should take
control of what their children look at TV. unfortunately, society already adopted suggestive messages with negative messages
as something very common.

7)it is important to let people know that media of communication like television and internet, has many negative messages
that could change the children behaivor

8)creating a hook to the readear and convince them that many sugestive messages as sexual messages are a big problem
that society already adopt has somethink rutinary. however, children and teenagers will feel the poor part about this issue
they behaivor is in risk thanks to this negative messages that television shows.

Brenda Martinez says:

1) Briefly explain why this source that you chose is an example of backing and N...

1) Briefly explain why this source that you chose is an example of backing and NOT evidence.

http://health.yahoo.com/mentalhealth-overview/bipolar-disorder-in-children-and-teens-topic-overview/healthwise--ty6917.html

The source that I chose is an example of backing because they clearly explain what bipolar disorder in children's and teens is, and because the authors of this article put the article throw a medical review by experts like Michael J. Sexton, MD- Pediatrics and Lisa S. Weinstock, MD- Psychiatry, and this gives more credibility to the article, and supports my opinions.

2) Why is this writer talking about what he or she is talking about? (Is it because of $, political motivations, personal interest etc.) How do you know?

I think the writer is talking about Bipolar disorder because of personal interest, and I know it because this is not an article that promotes a medication or any trademark or any group of companies like Astra Zeneca, so they do not receive any monetary refunds, by writing this article.

3) Does this writer represent the majority or minority of voices / writings dealing with this subject? If not, why is the publication choosing to publish this story? (hypothosize or "guess" if you are not sure).

In my opinion I think that this two authors could represent the majority of voices because in the article they answer the most common questions that people has about bipolar disorder in children's and teens and also some of the most common questions the people ask about this illness to the doctors.

4) Do you see connections between this source and any previous sources? If so, explain the connection. If not, explain why you DO NOT see a connection. (sometimes facts are shared, but reasoning is not)

I really see a connection between this article I choose and other sources I have read not only because the have similar facts, but also because they share reasoning, for example they all say that bipolar disorder is usually misdiagnosed in children's and teens with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), alcohol and drug abuse problems, or conduct disorder. This all other opinions about bipolar disorder are share between several sources.

5) Is this writer fighting against a "pre-conceived" idea or "popular" understanding? Does this make it easier or more difficult to understand his or her opinions?

It makes it easier because the authors clearly express they support to this illness and the try to answer the most common questions that people have about this illness, because the know that this is an illness that is difficult to diagnose, and they want to help people understand more about the topic.

6) Is this writer writing about something that is happening now, or something that WAS happening in the recent past? (Technically the answer can only be one or the other- but if you honestly feel the answer is "both," then justify why both are correct).

I think that this illness and the necessity to learn more about it is something happening now, but it has also happen in the past, because if today there are several people that do not know about this illness that is attacking our children's and teens, on the past they were even more people that did not knew anything about it, and on this days there is a huge importance that we learn more about it for the better enrolment of our children's and teens in society

7) Why is this information important to know BEFORE someone participates in your topic / issue? This information is important that people know more about it before so they can really understand the importance about learning more so we can all help our children's and teens to adapt better in to the society and be part of their community because this illness is what it most affects they patient social life.

8) How would you use this source to communicate "background information" to your reader? What assumptions does this source help to explain? (NOTE: these are not the same questions, as "how would you use this source in your argument?"

I will use this source to communicate background information about B.D because this is the main object of this article to really give a clear idea to the reader of what bipolar disorder is and what they have to learn to help our patients have a better quality of life and of course a better social life.

1) The source I chose is a good backing source because almost all of the article support my current topic about drug legalization in Mexico and it says why we should legalize drugs in México also support the idea of deal whit the corruption.
2) The reason that the author wrote this article is to let all the people know why we should legalize the drugs and how this will help us dealing whit the violence and insecurity of the country.
3) This author represent the majority of the persons however also the majority of the people in the country doesn't understand the idea because they cannot realize that actually the problem solution it is in itself the problem.
4) The common connection between this source and the last is that this one is writing like an article and the last source was writing in a list of supporting points but bout made emphasis in the reasons why we should legalize drugs.
5) Authors opinion goes against popular believing of drugs prohibitions and goes against almost all people understanding ideas.
6) It is about something its happening right now. Yes it is something its happening and has been happening long time ago and the author made emphasis on why this problem has been occurring for the last 50 years and how the problem has been growing .
7) It is very important to read it before get in to the issue because it will change your understanding process and make you think in another way
8) It is very important to let people know how this will help us deal whit the insecurity and the violence we have seen the last years.

1) this is backing because it answers why would people think the current drug war in the border
could affect society.
2) I think the writer is doing this report for money becuase "it is his job" to investigate and
inform with news.
3) it does not represent any voices it is done mainly to inform about a current situation.
4) the connection they had with my previous resources is that they both talk about people
that their job is to kidnap entrepeneurs, forcing society to refugee in the U.S.
5) the writer is not giving an opinion this is an informative resource.
6) the writer is talking about a current situation that is the drug cartels war in Mexico. Although
these wars have probably since 20 years ago, but yes it is mainly talking about the current situation
7) so he can read about opinion of people that were interviewed and know what is the tendency
of this situation or what solutions is society doing.
8) it will help me explain a really accurate analysis of the drug war situation.

1) Engaging men in ending men's violence against women is a backing which show us how men aggressiveness have been treated during some years before in our society and it is not the evidence that show us how or why men have been aggressive against women.

2) Dr. Michel Floods writes in this article about how to manage men aggression and how to show men to behave in a correct way which is with no aggression. "A good man is not an aggressive man". He has societal interest about this topic in order to combat it.

3) I think he is in the majority because he is showing a bunch of reliable information which gives us an idea of how many people are interested and working in this societal problem in order to combat it.

4) Yes there is a connection between some of my last sources because my other sources talk about how men behave when they are aggressive and why they have that bad attitude and this source describe us the development and sometimes the way men is educated with some ideas that guide them to behave aggressive like aggressive men are better than those who are not.

5) No Dr. Floods is not writing against a popular idea, he is in pro with popular idea about combat the wrong thoughts that men have about how is his role in society to be a man.

6) This author is writing about something that starts in the past and know is still present in our society. In the past did not know a lot about aggression that women receive in their homes or even in schools but now this problem is known by almost all people in the world.

7) This topic is important for someone to know how this was happening and how society have been working from some years before trying to finish with this kind of violence.

8) I am going to use this source to support my warrant which is about the history of violence of men against women.

a. A) In my essay I will used this resource in my warrant and backing to support the idea of how men have been acting during the time and why the authors says that.
b. B) When I show some examples and statistics doctor shows about the differences in children raised in families with and without father.
c. C) In the lit review I will use this source to explain the point "why men behave aggressive".
3) I find this source on internet and there are some other sources related with aggressive men but most of them are weak and with not enough good information.
4) No.
5) Yes it could apply on either the backing or evidence, but I think I will used in the backing.
6)
a)I could justify my weak resource using it just as an example of a type of aggressive men.
b) I could replace my weak source with another which talks about aggressive-passive men which is really important to cover in my information because this source instead of just describe one type of aggressive men which is the most common it show us an unknown way to know if men are aggressive or is not. It could be useful as evidence too.

Journal 9

I think that my bad source is the web because the information I am getting right know is old

information and honestly I do not trust very well in that page but I am using it because support

my evidence and some other information of my backing . I will use better news paper journals instead

looking for bad information . Newspaper journals help me better that web because gives me viewpoints

from expert persons and that is what I am looking for to complete the structure of my research project

which is my priority right know .
